 Película biográfica sobre Janis Joplin, desde sus orígenes en Texas hasta Woodstock y el mega estrellato. Muestra presentaciones de Big Brother y The Holding Company. La voz más desgarradora del rock en un documental tan conmovedor como imprescindible. Tiene mucho material en vivo con sus distintas bandas.

Janis, película documental sobre la cantante de rock and roll y blues Janis Joplin. La película fue dirigida por Howard Alq con la ayuda de Albert Grossman, parte de la banda sonora de la película se incluye en el álbum de 1975 Janis.

La película se compone en su totalidad de material de archivo de Joplin. Incluye ensayos de junio 1970 apareciendo en The Dick Cavett Show, material de Woodstock en 1969 (bailando con el saxofonista de su banda durante una parte instrumental), y otro segmento de televisión filmado en blanco y negro en abril de 1967 antes de ser conocida.

Una gran cantidad de tiempo de la pelicula de Janis está dedicada a la gira europea de 1969, incluyendo una entrevista durante su estancia en Estocolmo y la reacción extática de una fan en Frankfurt cuando ve a Joplin a través de la ventana de su autobús de gira antes de comenzar concierto.

Laura Joplin, hermana menor de la estrella contribuye al éxito del off-Broadway play Love, Janis (se basa en el libro de Laura del mismo nombre), se ve y se la oye hablar en una entrevista con Janis en la reunión de la escuela con diez años, en Thomas Jefferson High School, en Port Arthur, Texas, clase de 1960.
